Field of Dreams continues to be a home run.

Filmed among the cornfields of Dyersville, Iowa, the sports fantasy’s iconic baseball field remains intact. On Aug 13., a regular-season Major League Baseball game took place there, between the Minnesota Twins and Philadelphia Phillies, for the first time in four years.

Based on the 1982 novel Shoeless Joe by W.P. Kinsella, Field of Dreams originally hit theaters on April 21, 1989. The heartwarming tale follows Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner, who builds a baseball field after he hears a mysterious voice say, ā€œIf you build it, he will come.ā€

The diamond goes on to attract the ghosts of former baseball players and leads Ray on a journey to reconcile with his father. Along with Costner, James Earl Jones, Ray Liotta, Amy Madigan, Burt Lancaster and Gaby Hoffmann all appeared in the film.

So, what happened to the cast of Field of Dreams? Here’s everything to know about where the stars’ careers and lives took them after the film’s release.

Following Field of Dreams, Costner starred in a number of films, including Dances with Wolves (1990), The Bodyguard (1992) and The Postman (1997).

Outside of his work life, the actor has gotten married three times and welcomed seven kids: Annie, Lily, Joe, Liam, Cayden, Hayes and Grace. Today, Costner’s children range in age from 16 to 42.

As Costner has maintained his decades-long career, he’s also become known for starring in Westerns — from the hit series Yellowstone to his Horizon movies.

ā€œI don’t even think about retiring, because I’ll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination,ā€ Costner told PEOPLE in June 2025.

He added, ā€œI’ve so enjoyed life and imagining what I can do, what can I be about and what makes a difference — not only to me, but to other people.ā€

Jones went on to portray countless other timeless characters following his depiction of Terence Mann.

He played Mr. Mertle in The Sandlot (1993 and the 2005 sequel), Darth Vader in several Star Wars projects and Mufasa in The Lion King (1994 and 2019).

Off-screen, Jones married twice. He and his second wife, actress Cecilia Hart, wed in 1982 and welcomed their son Flynn that same year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

On Sept. 9, 2024, Jones died at his home in Pawling, N.Y. He was 93 years old.

Jones’ costar Costner dedicated a touching tribute to the late actor on Instagram.

ā€œThat booming voice. That quiet strength. The kindness that he radiated. So much can be said about his legacy, so I’ll just say how thankful I am that part of it includes Field of Dreams,ā€ he wrote.

He continued, ā€œIf you’ve seen it, you know that this movie wouldn’t be the same with anyone else in his role. Only he could bring that kind of magic to a movie about baseball and a corn field in Iowa. I’m grateful to have been a witness to him making that magic happen.ā€

Liotta’s costar Costner also shared a tribute.

ā€œThe most important is my beloved Ed, who’s been with me forever, and that’s a long-ass time. And none of this would mean anything if he wasn’t by my side,ā€ Madigan said of her husband while accepting the Best Supporting Actress award for Weapons at the 2026 Oscars.

The pair welcomed their daughter Lily in 1993. She has followed in her parents’ footsteps, appearing on an episode of Chicago Med and in other projects.
