Mr. Clarke from "Stranger Things" is giving fans a lesson in online misinformation.
Randy Havens, who plays teacher Scott Clarke on the hit Netflix series, has taken to Instagram to debunk baseless conspiracy theories that significant cuts were made to the newest season.
"There's no secret Snyder cut of the show," Havens wrote in an Instagram story. "Please don't believe everything some random a-- tells you on the internet."
The "Snyder cut" refers to a movement in 2017 calling on Warner Bros. to release a director's cut of Zack Snyder's film "Justice League." The theatrical version was substantially different from Snyder's original vision after the filmmaker left the project and was replaced by director Joss Whedon. The online petitions were a success, pressuring Warner Bros. to release the so-called "Snyder cut," dubbed "Zack Snyder's Justice League," on HBO Max in 2021.

But in that case, there was documented evidence of behind-the-scenes turmoil on "Justice League." In the case of "Stranger Things," there has been no evidence to support claims spread on social media in recent days that major scenes and storylines were cut in the new season in a way that affected the overall quality of the storytelling.
Despite this, a Change.org petition demanding to release the "unseen footage" of "Stranger Things" Season 5, which claims that "they must have cut out a lot of scenes from volume 2 and from our loved characters," has attracted nearly 300,000 signatures.
One piece of evidence fans have pointed to is the fact that some of the new episodes were previously listed with longer runtimes on IMDb, but those longer runtimes were never confirmed to be accurate in the first place. In many other cases, fans have pointed to scenes in the new episodes they didn't like and simply asserted that this must mean there are missing scenes that would have caused these plot beats to make sense.

The conspiracies ultimately stem from the fact that some fans were unhappy with the latest batch of "Stranger Things" episodes, arguing they did not move the story along in a satisfying enough way ahead of the upcoming series finale.

The seventh episode of Season 5, "The Bridge," has been especially controversial, in part due to a scene where Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) comes out as gay. Some fans felt the scene, where Will comes out of the closet in front of every major character on the show at the same time, was awkwardly written. On IMDb, "The Bridge" currently holds a score of 5.5 out of 10, making it the lowest rated episode in the series' history, though it's unclear whether homophobic backlash may have played a role in the score.

"The Bridge" was part of the second batch of episodes of the final season of "Stranger Things," which debuted on Christmas Day after the first four episodes were released the day before Thanksgiving. The season was highly anticipated after a more than three-year wait and coming off a fourth season that was generally well-received among critics and fans.
All eyes now turn to the "Stranger Things" series finale amid questions about whether creators Matt and Ross Duffer can land the plane or whether another instance of "Game of Thrones" level ending backlash is in store. The final episode hits Netflix on New Year's Eve.
