It has been a long time since Prince William faced labels like “work-shy”. However, a royal expert has claimed that the heir to the British throne is quietly executing a modern, corporate strategy to secure the monarchy’s future.
Dan Wakeford, founder of Celebrity Intelligence, shared insights with Fox News Digital. He mentioned that William is unfazed by public criticism and instead he prioritizes his family while focusing on high-impact events designed to keep the institution strong and relevant.
Expert Says William Is Extremely Good at Setting Boundaries
The Prince of Wales balances his royal duties with his personal life. He works hard to protect his loved ones from burnout while rethinking how a royal operates.
“William is extremely good at setting boundaries and not working during the holidays, protecting his kids’ privacy and his wife’s mental health. There’s some criticism of that. Some critics snipe at that and think that he’s ‘work-shy’ or a little bit lazy. But I think William is working more like a CEO and being very strategic with his time,” said Wakeford.
He also added that this approach works well in practice. “He studies the monarchy in a way to help make it survive and keeps a boundary around his real life and his relationships so that he doesn’t get burned out, and he can do the best job possible,” Wakeford shared. “And the poll numbers show that he’s extremely popular, and he’s doing a good job.”
This shift has come as the number of active working royals has drastically reduced. Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor stepped back from public life in 2019 due to his links with Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, too, moved to California in 2020. Moreover, King Charles is continuing his cancer treatments while keeping a busy schedule.
William Has Long Dealt With ‘Work-Shy’ Tag
This “work-shy” label is not new for Prince William. He has often faced attention for attending fewer public events than older relatives. Reportedly, Princess Anne had wished for her nephew to take on more routine royal visits as he is preparing for the crown.
Journalist Emily Andrews also recalled William confronting her over an article titled “Work Shy Wills,” where he mentioned that most of his work happens behind the scenes, as reported by Marie Claire.

“Princess Anne will always do more engagements,” British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard told Fox News Digital.
“That’s her job. But William has the monarch’s permission to prioritize his young family. And in 2026, that stability is part of the job.”
Chard also revealed that William focuses on long-term strategy rather than frequent public appearances.
“Preparing to run the monarchy like a CEO doesn’t mean less work. It means different work. Forget 400 meet-and-greets. We’re getting 10-year projects. We’re talking about big goals, big partnerships and measurable, real outcomes.”
Royal expert Hilary Fordwich also added that raising Prince George is important to Prince William’s duty. “His focus on being a good father to Prince George is critically important,” Fordwich said, noting that family stability presents a strong, modern image for the royal family’s future.
