Police Found Tyler Duckworth Dead After Call from Neighbors About ‘Water Coming Through the Ceiling’

Police said Tyler Duckworth, 44, was found dead in the bathroom of his apartment after his downstairs neighbors reported water coming through the ceiling

Authorities said there were no signs of foul play or a suspicious death and his cause of death is pending autopsy and toxicology results

The incident comes two weeks after Duckworth, a two-time Challenge champion, attended a fan event in Minneapolis with fellow reality TV alums

Police have released more details into the circumstances surrounding Tyler Duckworth’s death.

The Grand Forks Police Department told PEOPLE that The Challengestar had been found dead in his apartment after they received a report from downstairs neighbors of water coming through the ceiling.

Officers were dispatched to Duckworth’s apartment at roughly 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, police said. They made entry into his apartment and confirmed that the water coming through the ceiling was coming from the bathtub in his bathroom. That was also where his body was found.

Police said it was not clear how long he had been deceased, but that he was seen the day before. Officers also noted that there didn’t appear to be any signs of foul play or a suspicious death.

The cause of death is “pending the results of an autopsy” and a toxicology report will also be conducted, which can take between 10-12 weeks, police told PEOPLE.

Duckworth’s mother, Joni, announced her son’s death at the age of 44 on Facebook on Thursday, Aug. 13, writing, “My son, Tyler, passed away earlier this week.” She added that his “cause of death has yet to be determined” and she would post “about services as soon as his dad and I figure it out.”

The reality star’s death comes nearly two weeks after he appeared at The Challenge Mania event in Minneapolis on July 31, which he posted about on Instagram. He shared photos of himself with fellow The Challenge alums Rachel Robinson, Brad Fiorenza, Tina Barta and Mark Long.

“@challengemaniapodcast always knows how to bring the BEST of the BEST together!!,” he wrote at the time. “So proud to represent my hometown of Minneapolis along with these other challenge legends.”

“The fans are what keep us coming out! Hearing your stories of courage, inspiration & joy that you’ve got being a fan of the franchise is humbling each and every time. Also, pretty sure we nailed the cast photo for the lost season of The Real World: Minneapolis!! Thank you Minneapolis!,” he added.

Duckworth began his reality TV career on MTV’s The Real World: Key West in 2006 shortly after graduating from Tufts University. He then went on to compete on six seasons of The Challenge — The Duel, The Gauntlet III, Cutthroat, Rivals, All Stars 2 and All Stars 3 — and was crowned champion on Cutthroat and Rivals.

In an interview with Entertainment Weeklyin 2021, the TV star, who had been working as a middle school and high school teacher at the time, reflected on his return to the franchise with All Stars 2.

“I won two in a row and won against pretty stacked casts, but that was 11 years ago. And this sounds really sappy, but when you’ve already won, especially two in a row, for me it was more about: I just want to compete. I want to see if I still have it, if I can jump off crazy-high things or if I can do puzzles,” he told the outlet.
