A group of Buddhist monks on a journey from Fort Worth, Texas to Washington, D.C. on a self-described "Walk for Peace" have reached the Atlanta metro area.

The voyage will take the monks 2,300 miles to "raise awareness of peace, loving kindness, and compassion across America and the world," according to the group. The walk is estimated to take 120 days.

The monks are now 64 days into the walk, and they spent the night of Dec. 28 in Sharpsburg, Georgia, just outside Peachtree City.

"(Dec. 29) we continue our journey through Georgia, heading from Sharpsburg through Peachtree City to Fayatteville and Morrow in the Atlanta area," according to the group's Facebook page. "We are grateful for the continued support and warm welcome we receive along the way."

Will the 'Walk for Peace' go through Atlanta?

A live map of the monks' journey shows their progress across Georgia.

The group will make a lunch stop at 175 Trilith Parkway, Fayetteville, GA 30214. People wishing to visit and speak with the monks, or offer support through food, supplies or water, can do so between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Dec. 29.

The monks will spend the night at Morrow Center, at 1180 Southlake Circle, Suite 100, Morrow, GA 30260. Visitors can join the monks between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m.

While the monks will enter the Atlanta metro area, they will stay south of the city and outside the perimeter as they move east across Georgia.

From Fayetteville, the group will go north toward Atlanta, then cut northeast toward Lithonia and Loganville before cutting due east toward Athens. From Athens, the group will continue northeast into South Carolina.

When did the 'Walk for Peace' enter Georgia?

The monks stepped foot in Georgia on Dec. 26 in the city of West Point, north of Columbus.

The monks have been welcomed by crowds of support at each stop, photos and videos show.

How can I support the monks?

"Please note: We have everything we need for the journey — food, shoes, supplies and more. However, we are open to any donation and offering in person at our stops," according to the Huong Dao Temple website.

So far, people have offered food, socks, water, flowers and prayers to the monks as they pass through.
