For 130 years, the monogram canvas has been a motif and emblem synonymous with the storied house of Louis Vuitton. First created by Georges Vuitton in 1896 as a tribute to his father Louis (the Louis), who founded the maison, the monogram print, with its intricate composition of the interlaced LV initials and floral medallions, is part of the heritage of the Louis Vuitton brand, of course—it’s patented—but beyond that, a symbol of cultural relevance and innovation. Over the years, it has evolved beyond adornment and even signature, as a hallmark of Louis Vuitton’s creative spirit and embodiment of the distinct philosophy of excellence and modernity—traveling across generations, carrying stories and journey of those who have traveled with the maison’s iconic pieces. So how does one celebrate 130 years? With dedicated windows, and the unveiling of special-edition collections.

To kick off 2026 and the anniversary year, Louis Vuitton is inaugurating the celebration with the most iconic of the monogram bags: the Speedy (1930), the Keepall (1930), and the Noé (1932), as well as the Alma (1992) and the Neverfull (2007)—all distinctly innovative pieces that have set the prototype as era-defining accessories. Additionally, with the new monogram anniversary collection, Louis Vuitton has taken the codes of trunk savoir-faire, and reinterpreted the monogram through design, diverse materials, and a melding of traditional and cutting edge craft technique to create three special edition bags.

The Monogram Origine Collection pays homage to the first 1896 rendition of the pattern through a brand new monogram canvas, which revisits traditional jacquard weave, drawing inspiration from the cover of an archival client register of the house. The VVN Collection, an ode to the Louis Vuitton leather goods legacy, is crafted from the finest natural cowhide, to underscore the purity and poetry of hand-finished leather, with the intention of each piece developing a unique patina over time.

Then, there is the Time Trunk Collection, which bridges past and present through bold trompe l’oeil printing of texture and metallic detail, transforming the heritage of LV trunks by way of illusion.

With all three, the intention is simple: invite the world to rediscover the iconic monogram as not just a design, but a living emblem and ever evolving code of distinction and elegance that has grown, and continues to grow, over the past 130 years.
