Pat warned Jennifer and viewers of one major tip to making the treats

Jennifer Garner and her mom are back in the kitchen.

The Alias alum’s newest Pretend Cooking Show segment included a fan-favorite guest: her mom, Patricia Ann "Pat" Garner.

The pair demonstrated how to bake Meringue Chews in the Monday, Feb. 16 Instagram video.

The 13 Going on 30 star’s mom explained the backstory of the treat at the start of the clip. “Shall I tell the history of the Meringue Chews?” the 87-year-old began. “I used to live in Rolling Hills subdivision and we published a cookbook. In the first issue, Marge Aldredge put Meringue Chews. It’s a cookie. I made it dozens of times, and then I made a failure. I’d opened the oven door to check on them, you absolutely have to keep the oven door closed! Instead of coming out light and fluffy and like a meringue, it comes in a puddle.”

“Can you imagine?” the 53-year-old said in a jokingly serious voice. “A Marge Aldredge Meringue Chew in a puddle?”

Jennifer cracked the eggs, preparing to give them to her mom to beat, but an egg yolk broke. “Oh hells bells!” she said and Pat responded, “We have to throw that out and start over. We can’t have any egg in there.”

“I know, woman,” Jennifer replied and Pat continued, “Maybe my job should be cracking the eggs.” Jennifer audibly groaned and said, “I’ve got it, Mom.”

As always, Jennifer kept it playful in the kitchen, dancing while beating the egg white, sugar and cornstarch mixture, and Pat lent her cooking expertise to Jennifer’s actions.

For example, while the Once Upon a Farm founder chopped pecans and dates, Pat started to say, “You should have your nuts,” but Jennifer replied, “Yes, I think anyone would see that there’s wisdom in having all this done before you start your egg stuff.”

She folded the chopped ingredients into the whipped egg whites before spooning them onto baking sheets.

“Hey guys, you’re not getting touched,” Jennifer promised, thinking of her mom’s failed batch, while putting the cookies in the oven and shutting the door. “Enjoy! Do a good job!”

Jennifer, who suggested adding chocolate chips, ate two cookies and said, “They taste like church, they taste like growing up, they taste like Marge.”

Pat has previously joined for Pretend Cooking Show episodes about chicken enchiladas, "Grandmom Corn" and other childhood favorites.
