A 102-year-old great-grandfather with dementia died days after he was allegedly pushed off the stage in his local pub after making a noise complaint, according to his son.
Phillip Ormerod, from Cwmbran, was taken to hospital in a critical condition following the incident at the Crow’s Nest pub in the town on August 1.
Gwent Police confirmed on Thursday that he has since died.
His son, Robert Ormerod, said his father had dementia and lived alone in the Llanyrafon neighbourhood he had raised his family in.
Mr Ormerod is understood to have been visiting the Crow’s Nest for a drink when he went onto a stage in the venue to complain about the volume of the music.
“He just asked them to turn the music down,” Robert Ormerod said.

He said his father turned around to come back down off the stage when he was pushed, and that resulted in a broken hip.
“(That’s) the most upsetting part. He wasn’t going to live forever but it’s not a nice way, obviously in pain,” he said.
“They must have known he was an old man. It makes you wonder what the world is coming to,” he added. “He was in hospital, suffering, for a week-and-a-half. It’s not nice.”

Phillip Ormerod was a “well-known character” at the Crow’s Nest who young people would often buy beer for when he visited the bar.
He worked as a design draughtsman before his retirement and continued living in Llanyrafon following the death of his wife 40 years ago and was visited often by his two sons.
“I feel sad – even though he could be difficult because of his age and dementia, still, you get used to him being around,” Robert Ormerod said.
“Even though I suppose he wouldn’t go on forever, he would’ve carried on, I think, for a bit.”
A 56-year-old man from Llanelli was arrested on suspicion of section 20 assault and remains under investigation.
Emergency services were called to the pub in Cwmbran, South Wales, at about 10.25pm on 1 August following a report of an assault.

DCI Shelley Comley, senior investigating officer for Gwent Police, said: “We understand the public interest in this incident but want to remind people that not only is this an active criminal investigation but there is a family at the heart of it processing the loss of a loved one.
“Please consider the impact that inaccurate or speculative comments – particularly online commentary – could have on them and the ongoing investigation as a whole.”
Gwent Police are looking to speak to anyone who was in the pub between 10pm and 11pm on the night of the incident.
